Heating Wire Elements

There are two main types of electric resistance alloys .Nickel chromium (Ni-Cr) alloy and ferritic iron –chromium –aluminum (Fe Cr Al) alloy.

The two main types of alloys have their own specific properties with advantages and disadvantages, and are supplied in many different grades and forms.

Heating elements made of Fe Cr Al alloys have 2-4 times longer life than heating elements made of nickel – chromium material .the higher the temperature, the greater the difference. Maximum operating temperature of Fe Cr Al element is 1425˚C.

Ni-Cr alloy have special advantage if you need a very good mechanical properties in the hot state .Maximum operating temperature of Ni-Cr element is 1250˚C . Ni – Cr alloy should not be used in furnaces having a protective gas atmosphere due to the risk of green rot at 800-950˚C.

The density of Fe Cr Al alloys is lower than that of Ni-Cr alloys. This means that a greater number of equivalent elements can be made from the same weight material. Ni Cr alloys generally have better corrosion resistance at room temperature than Mon oxidized Fe Cr Al alloys in certain low-temperature applications a non magnetic material is preferred Ni –Cr alloys are non-magnetic.
